Bomb Shelter- Family/Divorce Law

September 29, 2020
Filed in: Divorce, Family Law

The attorneys at Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese P.C. work with tenacity and integrity to help clients navigate the explosive trauma of divorce.

“It’s our privilege to stand with our clients. anticipating every roadblock and handling every detail with the confidence born of experience-from start to finish. we’re aggressive, yes, but we balance that strength with an unassailable ethical core.”-Steven H. Shindler, Shareholder, Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese P.C.

Love happens, then marriage and kids and the jubilant lending of lives. And it’s a beautiful thing.

What’s not so beautiful is divorce. “Every day we work with people who feel like a bomb has gone off in their lives,” says Steven H. Shindler, a divorce and family law attorney at the Des Moines-area firm Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese P.C. “No matter the circumstances, emotions are intense: anger, grief, and fear of what’s to come. That’s completely understandable.” While some divorces can be resolved quickly and amicably, Shindler adds, manyparticularly those involving child custody or the dissolution of co-owned property or businesses-are highly complex and hotly contested.

People going through divorce or custody disputes need someone clearheaded, compassionate, and experienced. “That’s where we come in,” says Shindler. ”At our firm, we take a radically different approach to divorce and family law. We have not one, not two, but seven attorneys who have devoted their lives to these fields, and we work as a team on behalf of our clients. We know what’s tried-and-true, but we constantly challenge ourselves with new theories, applications, and fact patterns, pushing the field forward. Working together, there’s pretty much nothing we haven’t seen-and solved-before.”

While two or three attorneys work closest with each divorce or family law client, the entire team comes on board when needed, bringing with them more than 100 years of collective experience. When children are involved, says Shindler, the stakes are highest. “There’s nothing more important to our clients than their kids. We have a national network of experts we can bring in to help strengthen a custody case.”

The firm’s other attorneys offer expertise in personal injury, bankruptcy, business and corporate law, litigation, and appeals, as well as wills, trusts, and estate planning. “Our breadth is intentional,” says Ryan E. Weese, a shareholder and divorce and family law attorney at the firm. “Our reputation in Des Moines and throughout the Midwest means that many of our cases are complex, involving a host of different legal areas, including business valuation from farm ground to inventory to livestock and crops. Often, the experts we need to talk to are right down the hall.

“As divorce and family law attorneys, we are on the cutting-edge of that social experiment called life, and believe me, we’ve seen it all,” says Weese. “Our job is to do everything in our power to help our clients achieve a positive and just result so they can begin rebuilding their lives.”
